Huanghuali, also known as Dalbergia odorifera, is a slow-growing wood used for making furniture, taking about a thousand years to mature into usable heartwood. The heartwood of Huanghuali itself is considered a medicinal herb and is recorded in the Compendium of Materia Medica as "Jiangxiang" (descending fragrance). The fragrance it emits can help clear the senses. Due to its solid wood quality, warm color, fine texture, and predominantly golden hue, Huanghuali is highly stable with great flexibility. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was almost exclusively used by the royal family, symbolizing nobility and solemnity, and is regarded as a premium wood. It has high collectible value.
Huanghuali is also known as "blood pressure-lowering wood" because of its strong effects on lowering blood pressure and blood lipids.
